Stories of The Companions

AsSalaam Alkuim,

Todays post is part two of the three part series on the companion Abu Bakr:

When Muslims found life difficult at Mecca, they thought of going to some other land. With the permission of the holy Prophet, a part of them went to Abyssinia. here they lived in peace. So many more Muslims followed them.
Being the first man to go over to Islam, Abu Bakr had brought upon himself the special anger and hatred of the Meccan chiefs. Soon he felt hard pressed and asked permission of the Holy Prophet to go to Abyssinia. The permission was granted and Abu Bakr set off on his journey.
On the way he met the chief of Qara, Ibn-ud-Daghna. "What place are you bound for, Abu Bakr?" he asked.
"The people of Mecca have cast me out," replied Abu Bakr. "I am going to Abyssinia. There I will be able to worship the Lord the way I want to."
"A man like you should not be cast out," said Ibn-ud-Daghna. "You help the poor. You are kind to those in trouble. You are so nice to your guests. I will take you back to Mecca on my own responsibility."
So Abu Bakr ws back at Mecca. Ibn-ud-Daghna declared to the people that Abu Bakr was under his protection, so no one was to harm him. The Meccans said that they would let Abu Bakr alone, only if he did not preach his faith publicly.
Abu Bakr could not act on this condition very long. Soon he was preaching Islam as openly as ever. The Meccans complained to Ibn-ud-Daghna. He requested Abu Bakr not to make his position difficult. To this Abu Bakr replied, "I do not need your protection. Allah is enough for me."

The Title of "Siddiq"

I n the tenth yer of his mission, the holy Prophet had the Miraj of Ascension. One night the angel Gabriel came with the word that Allah the Almighty wanted the holy Prophet to come all the way up to the highest heaven. The holy Prophet undertook the journey.

In the morning, after the ascension had taken place, the holy Prophet talked to people about the Miraj. This drew the jeers of his enemies.
"Look!" the howled out, "what nonsense he talks! Surely, now his followers too will laugh at him. Who is going to believe in such a midsummer night dream?"
The talk was going on when Abu Bakr came up. "Do you know, Abu Bakr, what news your friend has for you in the morning?" said one of the mean. "He says he was on the highest heaven last night, having a talk with Allah, the Almighty. Would you believe it?"
"I would believe anything that the Messenger of Allah says," replied Abu Bakr
When the holy Prophet learnt of this, he at once said, "Abu Bakr is the `Siddiq'." `Siddiq' is a person so sincere of heart that doubts never mar his love. Abu Bakr earned this title because of his faith was too strong to be shaken by anything.

Migration to Medina

W hen the Meccans were intent on putting out, once and for all, the light of Islam, Allah commanded the holy Prophet to move to Medina. In the burning heat of the midday sun, there was a knock at Abu Bakr's door. He ran to the door and found the Messenger of Allah standing outside. "I must leave for Medina tonight," said he.

"Will I also have the honor of going with you?" asked Abu Bakr eagerly.
"Of course," came the reply. "Set about getting things ready."
Abu Bakr was beside himself with joy. "I have been looking forward to this day for months," he exlaimed. "I have specifically kept two camels to carry us to Medina."
It was Abu Bakr who made all the arrangements for the historic journey. for three days he and the Prophet lay hidden in the Thaur cave. Abu Bakr's slave tended the flocks of goats near the cave all day and supplied them fresh milk for food. His son, Abdullah, brought news about what the Meccans were doing.
The Meccans were searching for the holy Prophet like mad hounds. Once they came right to the mouth of the cave. Abu Bakr grew pale with fright. He feared, not for himself, but for the Prophet. However, the holy Prophet remained perfectly calm. "Do not fear," he said to Abu Bakr, "certainly Allah is with us."
Of all the companions, Abu Bakr had the honor of being with the Prophet during the most critical days of his life. Abu Bakr knew full well what this honor meant. And he did full justice to the trust put in him.

I pray that this post will do all reads good, InshaAllah.

Stories of The Prophets

AsSalaam Alkuim,

Todays blog will be part 2 of 3 our Father the first Prophet, Adam (AS).

So Allah sent Michael for the same purpose, and the land sought refuge with Allah and it was granted. So he went back and said to Allah what Gabriel has said before him.
Then Allah sent the Angel of Death, and the land sought refuge in Allah, the angel said: "I also seek refuge with Allah from returning without carrying out His command." So he took clay from the face of the earth and mixed it. He did not take from one particular place, but rather he took white, red, and black clay from different places.
The Angel of Death ascended with it, Allah soaked the clay till it became sticky. Then Allah said to the angels: "Truly, I am going to create man from clay. So when I have fashioned him and breathed into him (his) soul created by Me, then you fall down prostrate to him." (Chapter 38:71-72 Quran).
So Allah shaped Adam into a human being, but he remaineda figure of clay for 40 years. The angels went past him. They were seized with fear by what they saw, and Iblis felt fear most. He used to pass by the figure of Adam, buffeting it, which would make a sound like pottery. Allah told us: "He created man (Adam) from sounding clay like the clay of pottery." (Chapter 55:Quran).
When the time drew near to breathe the spirit into Adam, as Allah decreed, He commanded the angels: "When I breathe My spirit into him prostrate before him." Allah breathed His spirit into Adam and when it reached his head Adam sneezed. The angels said: "Say all praise belongs to Allah." Adam repeated: "All praise belongs to Allah." Allah said to him: "Your Lord has granted you mercy." When the spirit reached his eyes, Adam looked at the fruits of Paradise. When it reached his abdomen Adam felt an appetite for food. He jumped hurriedly before the spirit could reach his legs, so that he could eat from the fruits of Paradise. Allah, therefore, said: "Man is created of haste." (Chapter 21:37 Quran). And then: The angels prostrated themselves all of them together. Except Iblis, he refused to be among the prostrators. (Ch 15:31-32 Quran).
Abu Hurairah narrated that the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: "Allah created Adam from dust after He mixed the clay and left him for some time until it became sticky mud, after which Allah shaped him. After that Allah left him till it became like potter's clay. Iblis used to go past him saying 'You have been created for a great purpose.' After that Allah breathed His spirit into him. The first thing into which the spirit passed was his eye and then his nose. He sneezed. Allah said: "May your Lord have mercy upon you, O Adam! Go to those angels and see what they would say.' So Adam went and greeted them. they replied saying: "Peace be upon you and the mercy and blessings of Allah." Allah said: "O Adam! This is your greeting and that of your offspring." (Sahih al Bukhari).
Allah the Almighty revealed: Remember when your Lord brought forth from the children of Adam, from their loins, their seed (or from Adam's loin his offspring) and made them testify as to themselves saying: "Am I not your Lord?" They said: "Yes! We testify." lest you should say on the Day of Resurrection. "Verily we have been unaware of this." Or lest you should say: "It was only our father aforetime who took others pas partners in worship along with Allah and we were merely their descendants after them; will you then destroy us because of the deeds of men who practiced al batil (polytheism) and committing crimes and sins, invoking and worshipping others besides Allah?"
Thus do We explain the Ayah (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations etc) in detail so that they may turn unto the truth. (Ch 7:172-174 Quran).
Adam's progeny declared: "Our Lord, we bear witness that You are our Lord; we have no other Lord but Allah. Allah raised their father Adam, and he looked at them and saw those of them who were rich and those who were poor, and those who had good forms and those who did not. Adam said: "O Allah! I wish You to make Your servants equal." Allah replied "I love being thanked." Adam saw among the prophets like lamps among his progeny.
Almighty Allah declared: Remember when We took from the Prophets their covenant, and from you (o Muhammad), and from Noah, Abraham, Moses, and Jesus son of Mary. We took from them a strong covenant. (Ch 33:7 Quran).
In another verse Allah the Exalted commanded: "So set you (O Muhammad) your face towards the religion of pure Islamic Monotheism Hanifan (worship none but Allah Alone) Allah's Fitrah (Allah's Islamic Monotheism), with which He has created mankind. No change let there be in khalqillah (the Religion of Allah--Islamic Monotheism), that is the straight religion, but most men know not." (Ch 30:30 Quran).
Another version of the story relates that Allah took a handful of the dust of the earth and mixed into it the colors, white, black, yellow and red. That is the reason why men are born different colors. When Allah mixed the dust with water, it turned into potter's clay that makes a sound. It was fermented and had a smell. Iblis passed by, wondering what was going to be made of that clay. From the clay Allah created Adam. he molded his form with His own hands and blew His spirit into him. Adam's body quivered as life was imbued into it. Verily His Command, when He intends a thing is only that He says to it, "BE!" and it is! (Ch 37:82 Quran).
Allah the Almighty declared: Verily the likeness of Jesus, in Allah's Sight is the likeness of Adam, He created him from the dust then He said to him. "Be!" --and he was. (Ch 3:59 Quran).
Adam opened his eyes and saw all the angels prostrating before him except one being who was standing at a distance Adam did not know what kind of creature it was that did not prostrate before him nor did he know its name. Iblis was standing with the angels so as to be included in the command given to them but he was not one of them. He was a jinn, and as such he was supposed to be inferior to the angels. What is clear is that this prostration was to show respect and did not mean that the angels were worshipping Adam. Prostrating in worship is done only for ALLAH.
Almighty Allah recounted the story of Iblis's refusal to prostate before Adam: Remember when your Lord said to the angels, "I am going to create a man (Adam) from sounding clay of altered black smooth mud. So when I have fashioned him completely and breathed into him (Adam) the soul which I created for him then fall you down prostrating yourselves unto him." SO the angels prostrated themselves all of them together, except Iblis, he refused to be among the prostrators. Allah said: "O Iblis! What is your reason for not being among the prostrators?" Iblis said: "I am not the one to prostrate myself to a human being, whom You created from sounding clay of altered black smooth mud." Allah said: "Then get out from here for verily you are Rajim (an outcast or cursed one). Verily the curse shall be upon you till Day of Recompense (Day of Resurrection). (Ch 15:28-35 Quran).
In another surah Almighty Allah recounted it thus: Surely We created you (your father Adam) and then gave you shape (the noble shape of a human being), then We told the angels, "Prostrate to Adam and they prostrated except Iblis he refused to be of those who prostrate.
Allah said: "What prevented you Iblis that you did not prostrate when I commanded you?" Iblis said: "I am better than him (Adam), You created me from fire and him You created from clay." Allah said: "Get down from this Paradise, it is not for you to be arrogant here. Get out, for you are of those humiliated and disgraced." Iblis said: Allow me respite till the Day of Resurrection)." Allah said: "You are of those allowed respite." (Ch 7:11-15 Quran).
Ibn Jarir reported that Muhammad Ibn sirin said that the first one to reach a conclusion by reasoning was Iblis and that the sun and moon were not worshiped except through this method.
This means that Iblis tried to compare himself to Adam. He believed that he was more honorable than Adam. Therefore he abstained from prostrating even though Allah had commanded him to do so, just as He had commanded the angels. If an analogy is made we see that Iblis is vain. For indeed clay is better than fire because in it can be found the qualities of calmness, clemency, perseverance and growth; whereas in fire can be found heedlessness, insignificance, haste, and incineration.
Iblis tried in vain to justify his refusal: "Shall I prostrate to one whom You created from clay?" Iblis said: "See? those whom You have honored above me, if You give me respite (keep me alive) to the Day of Resurrection, I will surely seize and mislead his offspring (by sending them astray) all but a few!" (Ch 17:62 Quran).
Adam was following what was happening around him and had feelings of love, awe, and astonishment. Deep love of Allah,Who had created and glorified him and Who had made His angels prostrate before him. Awe of the Creator's wrath when He excluded Iblis from His mercy. Adam was surprised by this creature, Iblis who abhorred hiwithout even knowing him and who imagined himself better than Adam without having proved that he was worthier. What a strange creature Iblis was, and how strange was his excuse for not prostrating!
He imagined that fire is better than clay, but how did he get such an idea? Such knowledge is exclusive to Allah Who fire and clay and Who knows which is the better of the two.
From the dialogue Adam realized that Iblis was a creature characterized by cunning and ingratitude. He then knew that Iblis was his eternal enemy. He was greatly astonished at Iblis's audacity and Allah's tolerance. Immediately after his creation Adam witnessed the large amount of freedom that Allah gives to His commissioned creatures.
Allah knew that Iblis was not going to obey Him in prostrating before Adam. Allah could have totally annihilated him or turned him into a handful of dust or stifled the refusal in his mouth. Yet, Allah gives His commissioned creatures absolute freedom even to the extent that they can refuse Allah the Almighty's commands. He grants them the freedom of denial, disobedience, and even disagreement with Him.
His kingdom will not diminish if the disbelievers do not believe in Him nor will it be extended if many people believe in Him. On the contrary, the disbelievers will lose, and the believers will gain but Allah is above all of that.
There were many traditions about Iblis at the time of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Ibn Masud, Ibn Abbas and a group of the companions of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said that Iblis had been the head of the angels in the worldly heavens. Ibn Abbas said in one narration that his name had been Azazil and in another narration he said it had been Al Harith. Ibn Abbas also said that Iblis was a jinn and that they had once been the keepers of Paradise, with Iblis the most honorable and the most learned and the most pious of them. Another tradition says that he had been one of the famous four possessors of wings (angels), before Allah transformed him into the accursed Satan.
Allah Almighty recounts Iblis's disobedience in another surah: Remember when your Lord said to the angels: "Truly I am going to create man from clay. So when I have fashioned him and breathed into him (his) soul created by Me, then you fall down prostrate to him." So the angels prostrated themselves all of them; except Iblis, he was proud and was one of the disbelievers.
Allah said: "The truth is, and the truth I say, that I will fill Hell with you and those of them (mankind) that follow you together." (Ch 38:71-85 Quran).

After this lesson about freedom Adam learned another lesson, one about knowledge. Adam realized that Iblis was the symbol of evil in the universe and that the angels were the symbol of good. However he did not yet know anything about himself. Then Allah made him perceive his true identity and the reason for his creation, and the secret of his glorification.
Allah the Exalted said: He taught Adam all the names of everything. (Ch 2:31 Quran).
Almighty Allah granted Adam the power to know the natures of all things and to summarize them by names; that is a bird, that is a star, that is a tree, etc Allah implanted in Adam an insatiable need for and love of knowledge and a desire to bequeath knowledge to his children. This was the reason for his creation and the secret of his glorification.

We pray that this does you good, InshaAllah

MIracles of the Quran

AsSalaam Alkuim,

Todays post is the Miracles of the Quran. The miracles that we will speak of is the shape of the earth. At the time of the revalation of the Quran it was thought that the world was flat. 1,400 plus years ago.

The Roundness of the Earth

"He has created the Heavens and the Earth for Truth. He wraps the night up in the day, and wraps the day up in the night."
(The Qur'an, 39:5)
In the Qur'an, the words used for describing the universe are quite remarkable. The Arabic word that is translated as "to wrap" in the above verse is "takwir". In English, it means "to make one thing lap over another, folded up as a garment that is laid away". (For instance, in Arabic dictionaries this word is used for the action of wrapping one thing around another, in the way that a turban is put on.)
The information given in the verse about the day and the night wrapping each other up includes accurate information about the shape of the world. This can be true only if the earth is round. This means that in the Qur'an, which was revealed in the 7th century, the roundness of the world was hinted at.
It should be remembered, however, that the understanding of astronomy of the time perceived the world differently. It was then thought that the world was a flat plane and all scientific calculations and explanations were based on this belief. The verses of the Qur'an, however, include information that we have learned only in the past century. Since the Qur'an is God's word, the most correct words were used in it when it comes to describing the universe.

Inspirational Word of the Week

AsSalaam Alkuim,

Todays inspirational words of the week are:

"Whats is your prescribed, you will be given- If you dont take it, you will be forced to!

We hope that this will give you thought.

Hadith of the Week

AsSalaam Alkuim my Brothers and Sister,

This weeks hadith of the week is from the Sahih Bukhari collection and goes as followed:

Narrated Abdullah bin Amr:
The Prophet (SAW) said "A Muslim is the one who avoids harming Muslims with his tongue and hands. And a Muhajir (emigrant) is the one who gives up all what Allah has forbidden:.

This in a nutshell wraps up what a Muslim is and what we should strive for.

I pray that this does all of us some good (inshaAllah).

Islam 101

AsSalaam Alkuim,

Todays subject is Islam 101. The goal is to give a brief explanation (inshaAllah) of our book, The Quran:

What is the Quran?
The Quran is the sacred book of Islam and serves as one of the two primary sources
of Islamic teachings and law. Muslims believe the Quran to be the direct and infallible words
of God, revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) through the Angel
Gabriel fourteen-hundred years ago.
The purpose of the Quran is to serve as a source of guidance and admonishment to all
of humanity. It contains in it signs, miracles, parables, and lessons, in addition to its
eloquence and beautiful style. The primary call of the Quran is belief in God, describing His
Names and Attributes and His rights over us as His dependent creatures. It calls us to
examine and ponder over the signs of God in the universe and over God’s innumerable
bounties towards us so that we give due thanks and appreciation. It relates the signs of the
Last Day, the events of the Day of Judgment, and the description of Paradise and Hell. It
confirms the Books which came before it: the Torah and Gospel. It narrates the lives of the
Prophets and Messengers and the stories of the earlier generations. It provides guidelines
and detailed teachings for a just society, proper human conduct, and an equitable economic
system benefiting the poor and misfortunate. It encourages everything righteous and
discourages everything evil and immoral. It teaches the basics of good manners, noble
morals, and how to deal with others in the best way. It gives glad tidings to those who
believe and do good in this life with ever-lasting reward in the next life, and warns those who
arrogantly disbelief and commit oppression and evil in this life with punishment and
humiliation in the next life. The Quran describes itself in the following verse:
This [Quran] is a Message for humanity, in order that they may be warned thereby, and that they
may know that He is but one God, and that those of understanding may take heed. (Ibrahim
14:52)
The Quran is regarded by Muslims and Arabs in general as the pinnacle of literary
excellence and the most eloquent Arabic prose in existence. The miracle of the Quran lies in
the fact that it is a literary genre unique unto itself. The Quran testifies to its inimitability in
the following verse:
Say: “If mankind and the jinn (i.e. genies/spirits) were together to produce the like of this Quran,
they could not produce the like thereof, even if they helped one another. (Al-Isra 17:88)
For the Arabs at the time of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), this literary type
of miracle would have the greatest impact. The Arabs had reached the peak of eloquence
through their poetry and prose and it was an art they mastered and took great pride in.
Following its revelation, the Quran became instant news among the Arabs. They had never
heard anything like the Quran before, nor did it resemble any of the known poetic styles and
rhythmic prose of Arabic literature.
Although the literary aspect of the Quran is the strongest and most apparent aspect
of its miracle, it is the most difficult aspect to discuss in non-Arabic terms. The Quran is in
“…clear Arabic” (Ash-Shu’ara 26:195), and in order to understand its miracle in this respect, a
thorough understanding of the Arabic language is essential. It would therefore be more
prudent to give some stories and quotations on the impact that the eloquence of the Quran
had on its listeners.
One story is that of al-Waleed ibn al-Mugheerah, known as the most eloquent and highly
esteemed poet of Makkah at the time of the Prophet. He once passed by the Prophet (peace
be upon him), and heard him reciting the Quran. This had a visible effect on him, and he
went away shaken and startled by what he had heard. The news of this incident spread
throughout Makkah. Aboo Jahl, a staunch opponent of Islam who was afraid that the people
of Makkah might be affected by this news and convert to Islam, rushed to al-Waleed, and
told him, “O my uncle! Say something (against Muhammad (peace be upon him)) so that the
people will know that you are against him and hate (his message).” Al-Waleed replied:
“And what can I say? For I swear by Allah, there is none amongst you who knows
poetry as well as I do, nor can any compete with me in composition or rhetoric – not
even in the poetry of jinns (i.e. genies/spirits). And yet, I swear by Allah,
Muhammad’s speech (meaning the Quran) does not bear any similarity to anything I
know, and I swear by Allah, the speech that he says is very sweet, and is adorned
with beauty and charm. Its first part is fruitful and its last part is abundant (meaning
it is full of deep meanings), and it conquers (all other speech), and remains
unconquered! It shatters and destroys all that has come before it (of poetry, because
of its eloquence)!”1
1 Biography of Prophet Muhammad, Ibn Hishaam p. 225
Another story is that of Ali bin Rabban at-Tabari [d.870 C.E], best known as the Persian
Physician who produced the first encyclopedia of Medicine titled Kitab Firdaws al-Hikma' –
‘The Book of the Paradise of Wisdom’. He was a Christian who converted to Islam late in
his life. He asserts that he has never in any language found stylistic perfection equaling that
of the Quran:
“When I was a Christian I used to say, as did an uncle of mine who was one of the
learned and eloquent men, that eloquence is not one of the signs of prophethood
because it is common to all the peoples; but when I discarded (blind) imitation and
(old) customs and gave up adhering to (mere) habit and training and reflected upon
the meanings of the Quran I came to know that what the followers of the Quran
claimed for it was true. The fact is that I have not found any book, be it by an Arab
or a Persian, an Indian or a Greek, right from the beginning of the world up to now,
which contains at the same time praises of God, belief in the prophets and
Messengers, exhortations to good, everlasting deeds, command to do good and
prohibition against doing evil, inspiration to the desire of paradise and to avoidance
of hell-fire as this Quran does. So when a person brings to us a book of such
qualities, which inspires such reverence and sweetness in the hearts and which has
achieved such an everlasting success and he is (at the same time) an illiterate person
who never learnt the art of writing or rhetoric, that book is without any doubt one of
the signs of his Prophethood.”2
God revealed the Quran in an Arabic that was so emotive and eloquent that the Arabs
could clearly see it was a miracle from their Creator. However, for the Arabs the challenge
was not in acknowledging the miraculous nature of the Quran; it was in accepting and
believing in the Quran’s message that the Arabs struggled with. The religion of the Arabs at
the time was paganism whereas the entire message of the Quran was strict monotheism,
calling for the Arabs to abandon their paganism and make their worship and devotion
directly and sincerely for God alone.
The Quran is the miracle of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). He was given
this miracle as the ultimate proof for his Prophethood. God says in the Quran:
And they say, ‘Why are not miracles sent down to him from his Lord?’ Say: ‘The signs are only
with Allah, and I am only a plain warner.’ Is it not a sufficient (miracle) for them that We have
sent down to you the Book which is recited to them? Verily, therein is a mercy and a reminder for a
people who believe. (Al-‘Ankabut 29:50-51)
2 Abdul Aleem, I'jaz ul Qur'an, 1933, Islamic Culture, Volume VII, Hyderabad Deccan, pp. 222-223
The Prophet (peace be upon him) also alluded to the status of the miracle of the Quran
when he said:
“There has not been a single prophet except that Allah gave him miracles because of
which people believed in him. I have been given (as a miracle) the Inspiration (i.e.
The Quran) which Allah revealed to me. I hope, therefore, that I will have the largest
number of followers on the Day of Judgment.”
Every Prophet and Messenger was granted miracles by God as a clear sign of his
prophethood. Moses’ (peace be upon him) miracles included the staff, the shining hand, the
splitting of the Red Sea, and others. Jesus’ (peace be upon him) miracles included healing the
leper, curing the sick, raising the dead, and others. The impact of written words, however, is
much less than the impact of sight. While we may believe in the occurrence of these miracles
(as the Quran and the Biblical scriptures testify to their occurrence), the impact of these
miracles on us who merely read about them is significantly weaker in comparison to those
who witnessed these miracles firsthand. The beauty and power of the Quran is that it
removes the constraints of time and place upon the miracle – the Quran is a permanent
miracle for all generations after the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) to see and
appreciate, no matter where they live, or what time frame they are born in.

I pray that this will help all of you further understand this beautiful deen (way of life).

Stories of The Companions

AsSalaam Alkuim,

This week will be about Abu Bakrs service to Prophet Muhaamd (SAW) and his freeing of salves.

Abu Bakr was always very close to the holy Prophet. He knew him better than any other man. He knew how honest and upright his friend had always been. So he was the first among men to believe in the Prophet's mission. He was the first adult male to accept Islam. After the first revalation, the holy Prophet told him what had happened at Mount Hira. He told him that Allah had made him His Messenger. Abu Bakr did not stop to think. He at once became a Muslim. Once the holy Prphet himself remarked, "I called people to Islam. Everybody thought over it, at least for a while. But this was not the case with Abu Bakr. The moment I put Islam before him, he accepted it without any hesitation."
Abu Bakr did more than that. As soon as he became a Muslim, he began to preach Islam to others. He had many friends. The friends knew that Abu Bakr was sincere and truthful. They knew he would never support a wrong cause. He called them to Islam and they became Muslims. Among them were men like Uthman, Zubair, Talha, Abdur Rahman bin Auf and Saad bin Waqqas. These men later became the pillars of Islam.
The holy Prophet called at Abu Bakr's house every day. The two sad down and thought out ways of spreading Islam. Together they went to people and places and delivered the message of Allah. Wherever the holy Prophet went, Abu Bakr went with him.
Risks His Life
The messge of Islam made the people of Mecca very angry. The idols were their gods. The holy Prophet openly mocked at these gods. He declared they could do neither any good nore harm. Among the chiefs of Mecca was one Abu Jahl. He became the greatest enemy of the holy Prophet. He was always on the lookout to hurt him or even kill him, if he could. Abu Bakr kept an eye on this man, lest he should do a grave harm to Islam.
One day the holy Prophet was saying his prayers in the Kaaba. He was totally lost in the thoughts of Allah. Abu Jahl and some other chiefs of Mecca were sitting in the courtyard of the Kaaba. "I must finish with Muhammad today," said Abu Jahl. So saying, he took a long piece of cloth. He put it around the holy Prophet's neck. Then he twisted it hard. He was going to strangle the Messenger of Allah to death. The other chiefs looked on and laughed.
Abu Bakr happened to see this from a distance. He at once ran to the help of the Prophet. He pushed Abu Jahl aside and took off the cloth from around the holy Prophet's neck. Thereupon Abu Jahl and other enemies of Islam came down upon Abu Bakr. They beat him very much. Indeed, the beating was so severe that Abu Bakr fell down senseless. He was carried home. He could not regain his senses till after several hours. And when he did come to himself, the first question he asked was, "Is the Prophet un-hurt?" Abu Bakr did not care for his own suffering. He was glad that he was able to save the Prophet's life. Abu Bakr knew full well that if any harm came to the Prophet, the only hope of mankind would be gone. This made him risk everything he held dear, for the safety of the Prophet and for the spread of his message.

Liberation of Slaves

As years went by, the people of Mecca became more and more hard upon the Muslims. They made life difficult for them. Muslim slaves who had non-Muslim masters were the worst sufferers. They could not run away from their cruel masters, nor would they give up their faith. The heartless masters tried all kinds of torture to make them give up Islam. They made them lie, all naked, on burning sand. Then they put big stones on their chests. The poor slaves silently bore this all. They had no way of escape. Some of them found escape only in death.

Abu Bakr's wealth came to the rescue of many helpless Muslim slaves. He bought them from their inhuman masters and set them free. Bilal, the negro, was one of such slaves. He was the slave of Omayya bin Khalaf. Omayya was a heartless man. He would strip Bilal of all clothes, make him lie on the burning sand at mid-day and then lash him mercilessly. Despite this torture Bilal would go on saying, "Allah is one! Allah is one!" One day Abu Bakf happened to pass by. He was greatly moved by the sight. "Why are you so cruel to this helpless man?" he asked Omayya. "If you feel for him, why don't you buy him?" retored Omayya. So Abu Bakr at once bought Bilal at a heavy price and set him free. Bilal afterwards became the well-known "Muazzin" [ one who gives the call for prayer ] at the Prophet's Mosque.

We pray that this will help and guide all the ones who read and the whole Muslim ummah. Ameen.

Fridays Khutbah

AsSalaam Alkuim,

Fridays khutbah was at The Islamic Center of Polk County. Fridays khutbah was about The Companions of our beloved Prophet Muhammad (SAW). The Iman explained that it was there love for The Prophet (SAW) that made them do what they did. How they never took the sunnah for credit.  How The Companions followed the sunnah and all the sunnah. All of the sunnah. Unlike what a lot of the current ummah pick and choice which ones we want to follow. Like a salad bar.

The Iman also discussed that The Companions came from different tribes and were different races. How The Companions stuck together and supported each other no matter their differences. Stuck together for the love of Allah.

Also how that the sunnah is the ways and actions of Prophet Muhammad and he was the example for man. So, why wouldn't we try to do the same. How The Companions did it because they loved The Prophet (SAW).

This is how we should be. One ummah no matter our color or our background. How we should follow the sunnah of our Prophet (SAW), all of them. They followed it because they loved Allah and his Prophet, so shouldn't we, if we love them also.

Stories of the Prophets

Assalaam Alkuim,

Todays story will be about our Father Adam:

Allah the Almighty revealed: Remember when your Lord said to the angels: 'Verily, I am going to place mankind generations after generations on earth.' They said: 'Will You place therein those who will make mischief therein and shed blood, while we glorify You with praises and thanks (exalted be You above all that they associate with You as partners) and sanctify You.' Allah said: 'I know that which you do not know.'
Allah taught Adam all the names of everything, then He showed them to the angels and said: "Tell Me the names of these if you are truthful." They (angels) said: "Glory be to You, we have no knowledge except what You have taught us. Verily, it is You, the All-Knower, the All-Wise."
He said: "O Adam! Inform them of their names," and when he had informed them of their names, He said: "Did I not tell you that I know the unseen in the heavens and the earth, and I know what you reveal and what you have been hiding?"
Remember when We said to the angels: "Prostrate yourself before Adam" They prostrated except Iblis, he refused and was proud and was one of the disbelievers(disobedient to Allah)."
We said: "O Adam! Dwell you and your wife in the Paradise and both of you freely with pleasure and delight of things therein as wherever you will but come not near this tree or you both will be of the Zalimeen (wrongdoers)."
Then the Satan made them slip therefrom (the Paradise), and got them out from that in which they were. We said: "Get you down all with enmity between yourselves. On earth will be a dwelling place for you and an enjoyment for a time."
Then Adam received from his Lord Words. His Lord pardoned him (accepted his repentance). Verily He is the One Who forgives (accepts repentance), the most Merciful.
We said: "Get down all of you from this place (the Paradise), then whenever there comes to you Guidance from Me, and whoever follows My Guidance there shall be no fear on them, nor shall they grieve. But those who disbelieve and belie Our Ayah (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, and signs and revelations, etc) such are the dwellers of the Fire, they shall abide therein forever." (Chapter 2:30-39, Qur'an).
Almighty Allah also revealed: And surely, We created you (your father Adam) and then gave you shape (the noble shape of a human being), then We told the angels, "Prostrate to Adam", and they prostrated, except Iblis, he refused to be those who prostrate.
Allah said: "What prevented you (O Iblis) that you did not postrate when I commanded you?"
Iblis said: "I am better than him (Adam), You created me from fire and him You created from clay."
Allah said: "O Iblis get down from this (Paradise), it is not for you to be arrogant here. Get out for you are of those humiliated and disgraced."
Iblis said: "Allow me respite till the Day they are raised up (Day of Resurrection)."
Allah said: "You are of those allowed respite."
Iblis said: "Because You have sent me astray, surely I will sit in wait against them (human beings) on Your Straight Path. Then I will come to them from before them and behind them, from their right and from their left and You will not find most of them as thankful ones (they will not be dutiful to You)."
Allah said: "Get out from Paradise, disgraced and expelled. Whoever of them (mankind) will follow you, then surely I will fill Hell with you all."
"And O Adam! Dwell you and your wife in Paradise, and eat thereof as you both wish, but approach not this tree otherwise you both will be of the Zalimeen (unjust and wrongdoers)."
Then Satan whispered suggestions to them both in order to uncover that which was hidden from them of their private parts before, he said:" Your Lord did not forbid you this tree save you should become angels or become of the immortals." Satan swore by Allah to them both saying: "Verily I am one of the sincere well wishers for you both."
So he misled them with deception. Then when they tasted of the tree, that which was hidden from them of their shame (private parts) became manifest to them and they began to stick together the leaves of Paradise over themselves (in order to cover their shame). Their Lord called out to them saying "Did I not forbid you that tree and tell you, Verily Satan is an open enemy unto you?"
They said: "Our Lord! We have wronged ourselves. If You forgive us not, and bestow not upon us Your Mercy, we shall certainly be of the losers." Allah said: "Get down one of you an enemy to the other (i.e. Adam, Eve, and Satan etc). On earth will be a dwelling place for you and an enjoyment, for a time." He said: "therein you shall live, and therein you shall die, and from it you shall be brought out (resurrected)." (Chapter 7:11-25 Qur'an).

We imagine when Allah the Almighty decided to create Adam: He addressed His angels and told them to prostrate before him. He did not mean to ask their opinion or take their advice, for He is above that. Allah the Exalted told them that He was going to create a vicegerent on the earth who would have children and grandchildren who would corrupt the earth and shed each other's blood. That is why the angels said to Allah the Almighty: "Will You place therein those who will make mischief therein and shed blood!" (Chapter 2:30 Quran).
There are old traditions about the angels before the creation of Adam. According to Ibn Qatadah, it was said that the angels were informed about the creation of Adam and his progency by the jinn who lived before Adam. Abdullah Ibn Umar said that the jinn had existed for about 2000 years before Adam and then shed blood. Therefore Allah sent on them an army of angels that drove them out to the depths of the seas. Ibn Abi Hatim narrated from Ali jafar Al Baqer that the angels were informed that man would cause wickedness and shed blood on earth. It was also said that they knew that no one would be created on earth who would not be wicked and shed blood.
Whether or not these traditions are correct, the angels did understand that Allah would create a vicegerent on earth. Allah the Almighty announced that HE was going to create a human being out of clay, that HE would mold him and blow His spirit into him and then the angels should prostrate before him.
Abi Musa al Sha'arai narrated that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "Allah created Adam from a handful of dust taken from different lands, so the children of Adam have been created according to the composition of the land. Therefore from mankind we have white, red, black and yellow ones; we have good and evil, ease and sorrow, and what comes in between them." (Sahih al Bukhari).
Ibn Masud and other companions of the Prophet (PBUH) said that Allah the Almighty sent Gabriel onto the earth to said that Allah the Almighty sent Gabriel onto the earth to get Him clay therefrom. The earth said: "I seek refuge in Allah from your decreasing my quantity or disfiguring me." So Gabriel returned and did not take anything. He said: "My Lord, the land sought refuge in You and it granted."
So Allah sent Michael for the same purpose, and the land sought refuge with Allah and it was granted. So he went back and said to Allah what Gabriel has said before him.

This is part 1 of 3. I hope this does you good inshaAllah

Miracles of the Quran

AsSalaam Alkuim,

Todays post will be Miracles of the Quran. There are numerious miracles but, we will discuss one.
Todays willl be:
The creation of the solar system:

"By heaven furnished with paths;" (Surat adh-Dhariyat, 7)
The Arabic word "alhubuki," translated as "furnished with paths" in verse 7 of Surat adh-Dhariyat, comes from the verb "hubeke," meaning "to weave closely, to knit, to bind together." The use of this word in the verse is particularly wise and represents the current state of scientific knowledge in two aspects.

The first is this: The orbits and paths in the universe are so dense and intertwined that they constitute intersecting paths, just like the threads in a piece of fabric. The Solar System we live in is made up of the Sun, the planets and their satellites and heavenly objects in constant motion such as meteors and comets. The Solar System moves through the galaxy known as the Milky Way, which contains 400 billion stars.1 It is estimated that there are billions of galaxies. Celestial bodies and systems revolving at speeds of thousands of kilometers an hour move through space without colliding with one another.

The science of astronomy was developed with the aim of mapping the positions and courses of stars, while astro-mechanics was developed in order to determine these complex motions. Astronomers used to assume that orbits were perfectly spherical. The fact is, however, that heavenly bodies are known to follow mathematical shapes, such as spherical, elliptical, parabolic or hyperbolic orbits. Dr. Carlo Rovelli of the University of Pittsburgh says, "Our space in which we live is just this enormously complicated spin network.

I pray to our Lord Allah that this does someone good. (Ameen)

Hadith of the Week

AsSalaam Alkuim,

 Narrated Abu Huraira:

I heard Allah's Apostle saying. "All the sins of my followers will be forgiven except those of the Mujahirin (those who commit a sin openly or disclose their sins to the people). An example of such disclosure is that a person commits a sin at night and though Allah screens it from the public, then he comes in the morning, and says, 'O so-and-so, I did such-and-such (evil) deed yesterday,' though he spent his night screened by his Lord (none knowing about his sin) and in the morning he removes Allah's screen from himself."

Islam 101

AsSalaam Alkuim,

This weeks post will be a brief bio of our beloved Prophet Muhammad (SAW). Please read and take away from it all you can.

Brief Biography of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him)
Muhammad (peace be upon him) was born in the year 571 C.E. His father passed
away before he was born and his mother passed away when he was six years old, leaving him
an orphan in the care of his grandfather, Abdul Mutallib, and then his uncle, Abu Talib, after
his grandfather passed away.
Before Muhammad (peace be upon him) became a Prophet, he was known among
his people as Al-Ameen (The Trustworthy), due to his truthful words, great honesty, and
kind manners. His reputation caught the attention of Khadeejah, a business-woman of great
honour and fortune among the Arabs, and she decided to employ him to do business for her
as a merchant for a certain percentage of the profits. She became so impressed by his
character she decided to propose to him in marriage to which Muhammad (peace be upon
him) accepted. She was 40 years old and he was 25 years old at the time of the marriage.
When Muhammad (peace be upon him) was nearly 40 years old, he began to retreat
to a cave a couple miles from Makkah (where he resided). In the cave he would pass long
hours in meditation and thought. Over the years, his heart became restless about the moral
evils and idolatry that was rampant among his people. His retreats provided privacy and
detachment from the impurities of life, better preparing him for the event to come that
would change not only his life but the course of history.
In the year 610 C.E., that fateful event came to pass when Allah (God) decreed the
sending down of the first revelation through the Angel Gabriel to Muhammad (peace be
upon him) who was 40 years old at the time. The event is narrated below by Aisha, the wife
of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) whom he married after Khadeejah’s death:
“The commencement of the Divine Inspiration to Allah's Messenger was in the
form of good dreams which came true like bright day light, and then the love of
seclusion was bestowed upon him. He used to go in seclusion in the cave of Hira
where he used to worship (Allah alone) continuously for many days before his desire
to see his family. He used to take with him food for the stay and then come back to
(his wife) Khadeejah to take his food likewise again; till suddenly the Truth
descended upon him while he was in the cave of Hira. The angel came to him and
asked him to "read". The Prophet replied, "I do not know how to read."
The Prophet said, "The angel caught me (forcefully) and pressed me so hard that
I could not bear it any more. He then released me and again asked me to read and I
replied, 'I do not know how to read.' Thereupon he caught me again and pressed me
a second time till I could not bear it any more. He then released me and again asked
me to read but again I replied, 'I do not know how to read.' Thereupon he caught me
for the third time and pressed me, and then released me and said, Read in the name of
your Lord, who has created (all that exists), has created man from a clot. Read! And your Lord is
the Most Generous." (Al-‘Alaq 96:1-3) Then Allah's Messenger returned with the
Inspiration and with his heart beating severely. Then he went to Khadeejah and said,
"Cover me! Cover me!" They covered him till his fear was over and after that he told
her everything that had happened and said, “I fear that something may happen to
me." Khadeejah replied, "Never! By Allah, Allah will never disgrace you. You keep
good relations with your relatives, help the poor and the destitute, serve your guests
generously and assist the deserving calamity-afflicted ones."
Khadeejah then accompanied him to her cousin Waraqa who during the Pre-
Islamic Period became a Christian and used to write the writing with Hebrew letters
(i.e., the Gospel). He would write from the Gospel in Hebrew as much as Allah
wished him to write. He was an old man and had lost his eyesight. Khadeejah said to
Waraqa, "Listen to the story of your nephew, O my cousin!" Waraqa asked, "O my
nephew! What have you seen?" Allah's Messenger described whatever he had seen.
Waraqa said, "This is the same one who keeps the secrets (i.e., Angel Gabriel) whom
Allah had sent to Moses. I wish I were young and could live up to the time when
your people would turn you out." Allah's Messenger asked, "Will they drive me out?"
Waraqa replied in the affirmative and said, "All who came with something similar to
what you have brought (i.e., the previous Prophets) was treated with hostility; and if
I should remain alive till the day when you will be turned out then I would support
you strongly." But after a few days Waraqa died and the Divine Inspiration was also
paused for a while.”
This period of pause in revelation became very hard on the Prophet Muhammad (peace
be upon him) and he became so sad that he intended several times to throw himself from
the tops of high mountains, and every time he went up the top of a mountain in order to
throw himself down, Gabriel would appear before him and say, “O Muhammad! You are
indeed Allah's Messenger in truth,” whereupon his heart would become quiet and he would
calm down and return home. Whenever the period of the coming of the Revelation used to
become long, he would do as before, but Gabriel would appear again before him and say to
him what he had said before. The period of pause soon ended with the sending of the
second revelation; the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) described the event in the
following words:
“While I was walking, all of a sudden I heard a voice from the sky. I looked up and
saw the same angel who had visited me at the cave of Hira' sitting on a chair between
the sky and the earth. I got afraid of him and came back home and said, 'Wrap me
(in blankets).' And then Allah revealed the following verses (of the Quran): O you
wrapped up! Arise and warn! And your Lord magnify! And your garments purify! And keep away
from the idols! And give not a thing in order to have more. And be patient for the sake of your
Lord! (Al-Muddaththir 74:1-7) After this the revelation started coming strongly,
frequently and regularly.”
Following the revelation of these verses, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him)
began his mission as a Messenger of God, a mission that would last 23 years until his death
in 632 C.E. For the Prophet and those who accepted his message, they would have to
patiently endure persecution, rejection, economic embargos and consequent poverty and
hunger, even torture and death. But by the facilitation of God and the unshakeable faith of
those who believed in his message, Islam would prove to flourish. Within a 100 years
following the death of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), through the expansion
of the Islamic State, the message of Islam would spread as far East as China and as far West
as Spain. Today, Islam is the world’s second largest religion with over 1 billion adherents and
is statistically the fastest growing religion.

My Allah guide us ALL. Ameen.

Stories of The Companions

AsSalaam Alkuim,

Todays blog will be (inshaAllah) about one of our beloved Prophet Muhammad Companions. Todays will be the Prophets oldest and best friend Hazrat Abu Bakr Siddiq.
This will be part 1 of a 4 part series:

"No one has been a better companion to me than Abu Bakr," said the holy Prophet in his last sermon.
A great reward indeed! Abu Bakr had earned it. All his life he stood by the side of the Prophet. He did not care for his life. He did not care for his riches. He did not care for what others said about him. His only ambition was to serve the Prophet more than anyone else. The cost did not matter. The ambition was fulfilled. And Abu Bakr got his reward in full. The Messenger of Allah was well pleased with him. He gave him the first place among the Companions. Abu Bakr was to be the first man to fill the place of the Prophet. He was also to lie in eternal rest by the prophet's side.

Abu Bakr was two years younger than the Prophet. His parents named him Abdul Kaaba, which means the servant of the Kaaba. When he became a Muslim, the Prophet changed his pagan name to Abdullah. Howevr, in early youth he had adopted the surname of Abu Bakr. He had come to be known by this name among people. Even to this day, the world generally knows him as Abu Bakr.
The name of Abu Bakr's father was Uthman, but he was known as Abu Qahafa. Salma was Abu Bakr's mother. She was also known as Umm-ul-Khair. Abu Bakr belonged to a branch of the Quraish.
From early years, Abu Bakr was known for good and upright nature. He was honest and truthful. He came of a noble family. These things won him respect among the people. His goodness also won him the friendship of young Muhammad (Peace be Upon him). The two became fast friends in early boyhood. The friendship was to prove lifelong and history-making.
When he grew up, Abu Bakr became a rich merchang. But he used to be very kind-hearted. When he saw someone in trouble, his heart melted. He did his best to help him. If his money could remove suffering, he did not care home much he had to spend. Once he gave away thirty-five dirhams out of his total fortune of forty thousand. He was so honest in his dealings that people kept their money with him. Above all, Abu Bakr had a sincere heart and a firm will. Nothing could stop him from doing what he thought was the right thing to do.
These great qualities were soon to serve the noblest cause known to the world. Abu Bakr was to become the strongest supporter of the Redeemer of mankind. He was to become the first among the Companions. He was to make Arabia and thereby the world safe for Islam after the Prophet has passed away.

Service to the Prophet

First among Men

Risks His Life
The message of Islam made the people of Mecca very angry.
"I must finish with Muhammad today," said Abu Jahl

InshaAllah this will benefit you. Until next week.

Fridays Khutbah

AsSalaam Alkuim,

I received todays Khutbah from Mosque Al Sunnah in Kissimmee, Fl. The khutbah was about the relationship between the Quran and the Hadith of Prophet Muhammad (SAW). As it was explained the Hadith is an extension of the Quran. Example being The Quran tells the Muslim to pray, but not how many times or exactly how. In turn the Hadith explains how many times and how to pray. There are numerous examples of this.

He explained that there are some who just follow the Quran and not the hadith, but in doing so you're not fully getting the just of your deen ( your way of life which is Islam). The Quran is the revelations from Allah to his last Prophet the Hadith is the ways and actions of his last Prophet. How he carried out the revelations, how he taught his followers and humanity.

This is just a brief explanation I pray InshaAllah that this does you well.

Quran Miracles

AsSalaam Alkuim,

At the time the Qur'an was revealed, Arabic writings and poetry were confined to contemporary Arab environment, culture, customs and history. Thus, the majority of Arabic literature contained descriptions or praise of such topics as camels, horses, women, tribal chiefs, tribal wars, tribal historians, etc. The Qur'an, however, does not describe anything that refects the Arab enviroment, culture, history, etc. Moreover, the Qur'an uses it own specific words and terms to describe things or events. Much of the terminology was unknown to contemporary writers. For example, the Qur'an uses the term 'surah' for 'chapter' and 'ayah' for 'verse', whereas early Abrabic books used the word 'qaseedah' for 'chapter' and 'bayt' for 'verse'.

AsSalaam Alkuim,

Todays Thought of the day is:

Every son of Adam makes mistakes, and the best of those who make mistake are            those who repent. ( Hadith Tirmidhi )

Hadith of the Week

AsSalaam Alkuim,

This week hadith is the first of the 40 Hadith Qudsi:

What is a Hadith Qudsi?
Hadith Qudsi are the sayings of the Prophet Muhammad (Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon him) as revealed to him by the Almighty Allah. Hadith Qudsi (or Sacred Hadith) are so named because, unlike the majority of Hadith which are Prophetic Hadith, their authority (Sanad) is traced back not to the Prophet but to the Almighty.

On the authority of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said:
When Allah decreed the Creation He pledged Himself by writing in His book which is laid down with Him: My mercy prevails over my wrath.
It was related by Muslim (also by al-Bukhari, an-Nasa'i and Ibn Majah).

InshaAllah this is beneficial.

Good Afternoon,

I greet you with the universal greeting of peace AsSaalam Alkuim:
Today marks our first of many daily blogs (inshaAllah), and I hope that you find them useful in your day to day activity. Todays blog will be the first in the series of Islam 101. This is to help our future Brother and Sister with understanding the fast growing relgion in the world. May Allah bless us, the readers and all past, present and future muslims. Ameen. Without further ado:

What is Islam & who are the Muslims?
Islam is a monotheistic religion based on the Quran and the teachings of the Prophet
Muhammad (peace be upon him). The word ‘Islam’ is Arabic and literally means ‘surrender’
or ‘submission.’ As a faith, it means total and sincere submission to the One Almighty God
(Allah). A ‘Muslim’ is therefore one who has voluntarily submitted his or her will to God.
Islam is not named after a tribe of people or an individual as is the case with other religions;
rather it is a global faith and a universal call, preached not by just one individual but by all of
the Prophets and Messengers of God throughout the history of humanity, starting with
Adam (peace be upon him). The teachings of Islam dictate a complete way of life, and its
core message is found in the two testimonies of faith: Laa ilaha illallah; Muhammadur rasulullah
– “There is no god worthy of worship except Allah, and Muhammad is the messenger of
Allah.” A person who willingly makes this testimony and truly believes in the meaning of
these words becomes a Muslim.
How Does a Person Practice Islam?
Once a person accepts Islam as his or her religion and way of life, it is obligatory upon
that person to observe the five pillars of Islam that make up the fundamentals of practicing
Islam. These five pillars are:

1) Testimony of Faith – This is to openly declare: Laa ilaha illallah; Muhammadur rasulullah
– “There is no god worthy of worship except Allah (God), and Muhammad is the
messenger of Allah.” In order for a person to become a Muslim, a person must recite
this testimony willingly and sincerely.

2) Regular Daily Prayers – Muslims observe 5 required prayers that are spread
throughout the day during the following times: Dawn, Noon, Afternoon, Sunset, and
Night.
3) Fasting in Ramadan – Ramadan is the 9th month of the Islamic (lunar) Calendar.
During the month of Ramadan, Muslims observe fasting beginning at dawn and ending
when the sun sets. During the fasting period, Muslims do not drink or eat anything and
refrain from sexual relations with their spouses.
4) Annual Charity (Zakat) – Each year Muslims are required to give 2.5% of their savings
to the needy.
5) Pilgrimage to Makkah – Muslims who are physically, mentally, and financially able are
obligated to journey to Makkah and perform the Hajj (pilgrimage) and all of its rituals.
The pilgrimage to Makkah is one of the most rewarding and spiritually fulfilling
experiences a Muslim can ever embark on. It compels the pilgrims to break down the
racial, economical, and social barriers that may still plague their society, and invites each
pilgrim to practice patience, self-restraint, and piety.

Who is Allah?
‘Allah’ is the proper name for the One True God in Arabic and is the greatest and most
inclusive name for God. The name has no plural or gender and refers to the God of Noah,
Abraham, Moses, Jesus, Muhammad and the rest of the Prophets and Messengers of God
(peace be upon them). The 112th chapter of the Quran describes Allah in the following
words:
Say, “He is Allah, (the) One. The Self-Sufficient Master. He begets not, nor was He begotten;
And there is none co-equal or comparable unto Him.” (Al-Ikhlas 112:1-4)
Everything in Islam is based upon belief in the Oneness of God and getting closer to
Him (through righteous deeds). Islam’s creed is founded upon strict and absolute
monotheism termed as Tawheed in Arabic. Tawheed consists of three aspects:
1) Oneness of Allah in His Lordship –
2) Devotion of all Worship to Allah alone –
3) Oneness of Allah in His Names & Attributes –
These will be explained in greater length at another time (inshaAllah)

He is Allah, whom there is none worthy of worship except He, the All-Knower of the unseen
and the seen (open). He is the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful. He is Allah, whom there is
none worthy of worship except He, the King, the Holy, the One Free from all imperfections, the
Giver of security, the Watcher over His creatures, the All-Mighty, the Compeller, the Supreme.
Exalted is He above all that they associate [in worship] with Him. He is Allah, the Creator,
the Inventor of all things, the Bestower of forms. To Him belong the Best Names. All that is in
the heavens and the earth glorify Him. And He is the All-Mighty, the All-Wise.

Next week inshaAllah will talk about the six articles of faith. Until then AsSaalam Alkuim. If you have any suggestions or comments please feel free to send us a email at: haqqdawahgroup@gmail.com.
